Insurance agent license on hold

Insurance agent Larry H. Goto had his insurance license suspended by the state insurance commissioner after an investigation found Goto violated regulations in selling Medicare policies to senior citizens.

The state also issued a cease-and-desist order barring Goto from selling insurance plans in Hawai'i. In addition, Goto faces a possible $10,000 fine.

The state said insurance code requirements protect the elderly by ensuring consumers understand what they are purchasing and are not sold inappropriate policies.


PIER K-8 REPAIR WORK AWARDED

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. in Honolulu received a nearly $7 million order to repair Pier K-8 at the Fleet Industrial Supply Center at Pearl Harbor. The work to be performed provides for removal work, concrete rehabilitation of existing curbs, beams, slabs and piles and incidental related work.

The contract was awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command and is expected to be completed by April 2008.


ALPERT JOINS BIOPONIC BOARD

Bioponic Phytoceuticals Inc., a Kula, Maui-based developer of products used in alternative medicine and natural products markets, said Richard Alpert has joined its board of directors.

Alpert, also known as Ram Dass, has written and co-authored books that include "Be Here Now" and "Journey of Awakening."

He was on the psychology faculty at Stanford University. He also taught at the University of California and at Harvard University, Bioponic Phytoceuticals said in a news release.
