Hollywood feature set to film on O'ahu next month

Advertiser Staff

The romantic comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is set to begin filming on O'ahu in mid-April. Starring Jason Segel, star of the TV series "How I Met Your Mother," and Kristin Bell, of "Veronica Mars" and "Fanboys," the Universal Studios-Apatow Productions movie is described as a comedy about a bad break-up.

A film industry executive said the shoot means Hawai'i is "back in the game" as a location destination.

"It's clear that Act 88 played a significant role in their interest in Hawai'i," said Donne Dawson, film commissioner at the state's Hawaii Film Office, in a statement. The measure was passed by the legislature last session and signed into law by Gov. Linda Lingle in May, to lure filmmakers to the Islands.

"We are seeing very positive results from the passage of Act 88," said Brenda Ching, Hawaii Film and Entertainment Board Chair and Executive Director of Screen Actors Guild here. "It's only been about six months since the bill was enacted and it is clear we are 'back in the game' as a major on-location production destination."
