Vandals cause $7,000 damage to North Hilo school

Vandals caused $7,000 in damage to Laupahoehoe High School in North Hilo on the Big Island last week, police said, and information is being sought to solve the crime.

The vandalism occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Feb.28 and 6:30 a.m. March 1. Police said one or more persons threw rocks through nine classroom windows.

The incident is being investigated as a criminal property damage case.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call Officer Michael DeCoito at (808) 962-2120 or the Police Department's nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311.
