Gallery of Heroes induction today for 4 WWII veterans

Four World War II recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross will be inducted into the Hawaii Army Museum's Gallery of Heroes today.

The ceremony takes place at 1 p.m. at the Hawaii Army Museum, Batter Randolph, Fort DeRussy.

All four soldiers were members of the 100th Battalion, but each received their award for different battles:

  • Pfc. Kiichi Koda, for action near Castelina, Italy, 1944

  • Staff Sgt. Itsuma Sasaoka, for action near Belmont, France, 1944

  • Cpl. Masaru Suehiro, for action near Cerasuolo, Italy, 1943

  • Pfc. Robert H. Yasutake, for action near Lanuvia, Italy, 1944.
