Arizona leads UH, 2-0, as game is suspended by rain

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i-Arizona baseball game tonight was suspended with no outs in the bottom of the ninth with the Wildcats leading 2-0 and the Rainbows' Kris Sanchez at the plate with a full count.

The game will be completed at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow with the regularly scheduled 6:35 p.m. game to follow.

Preston Guilment pitched eight scoreless innings of five-hit ball with 12 strikeouts for the Wildcats.

The game had already been delayed 30 minutes because of rain with one out in the top of the ninth.

Ian Harrington gave up two runs, eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings for the Rainbows. Matt Daly pitched 1 2/3 innings.

The Wildcats broke the deadlock in the fifth. With one out, Robert Abel singled and took second on a wild pitch before T. J. Steele struck out. Colt Sedbrook was hit by a pitch before Abel stole third. With runners at the corners, Sedbrook broke for second on a 2-2 pitch for a ball and stayed alive long enough in a rundown to allow Abel to score before the third out was recorded to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.

Arizona chased Harrington in the eighth. With one out, Sedbrook doubled to right and scored on Bill Rhinehart's ground single to center to make it 2-0. Harrington was pulled for Matt Daly. Rhinehart stole second before Daly struck out C.J. Ziegler. Brad Glenn walked, but Daly retired Jon Gaston on a come-backer to end the inning.
