District judge to be sworn in on Maui

A new District Court judge of the Second Circuit on Maui will be sworn in at 3 p.m. today at the Maui County Council Chambers.

Keith E. Tanaka will replace retired judge Reinette Cooper. Tanaka has been in private practice since 1989, specializing in criminal defense. He also has experience in appellate work, divorce, foreclosure proceedings, arbitration and parole hearings.

He is a 1983 graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law and earned his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1974 and a professional diploma in 1977. From 1975 to 1980, he worked as a secondary education teacher for the Hawai'i State Department of Education.
