U.S. Vets gets $5,000 grant to assist homeless veterans

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Vets Hawai'i organization will receive a $5,000 grant from Waste Management of Hawaii and the mayor's office earmarked toward helping homeless veterans.

A check ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mayor Mufi Hannemann's office at Honolulu Hale. Paul Burns, vice president and general manager of Waste Management of Hawaii, and Daryl Vincent, executive director of U.S. Vets Hawai'i, will join Hannemann at the presentation. U.S. Vets Hawai'i is located at Kalaeloa (Barbers Point).

Since opening its Hawai'i location in 2003, U.S. Vets has helped more than 800 veterans get off the streets, and provided food and shelter, job training, and psychological help for those with post traumatic stress disorder, the organization said in a news release.
