Chuuk officials await voyaging canoes' arrival today

The Alingano Maisu, Hokule'a and Kama Hele are expected to arrive at the northeast pass to Chuuk this morning, said Kathryn Muneno, a spokeswoman for the voyage.Muneno said they are expected to be greeted at the pass by two official boats that will help clear the way as dozens of 16- to-22 foot boats with a single-engine outboard motors (the popular mode of transportation in Chuuk) are expected to greet them.
The Alingano Maisu, Hokule'a and Kama Hele will moor off-shore and the crews will be shuttled in to the seaside College of Micronesia, where an official arrival ceremony with the governor, mayor, chiefs and community will be held.
Chuuk is a day ahead, so tomorrow will be Sunday for the crew and in Chuuk, it is a day of church and rest, so the crew will also rest.
Refueling, provisioning and visiting schools will occur Sunday morning (Hawai'i time), with a possible departure in the afternoon, subject to change of course.
All on the three vessels are doing well, Muneno said.
