Kona robbery leads to 3 arrests

Advertiser Staff

Three men are in police custody in connection with a robbery Thursday night in Kailua-Kona.

A 14-year-old boy reported at 1:20 a.m. Friday that he had been robbed about three hours earlier at the Coconut Grove Marketplace on Ali'i Drive.

Preliminary investigation by Kona patrol officers determined that three men confronted the boy at 11:30 p.m. Thursday and forcibly took an 'ukulele and a small amount of cash.

Shortly after police responded, they located the suspects on Kuakini Highway near Kalawa Street and recovered the 'ukulele.

Police arrested two men ages 20 and 22 — both from Kaimuki, O'ahu — and a 19-year-old man from Hayward, Calif.

The three men are being held at the Kealakehe police cellblock pending charges while Kona detectives continue the investigation.
