Rainbow Wahine top No. 14 Oregon State in softball

By Michael Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

The way the Rainbow Wahine have been hitting recently, the imperiled folks at Johnson Hall B might consider installing a batting net outside their apartment.

Sophomore Clare Warwick hit a go-ahead home run in the fifth inning and senior slugger Tyleen Tausaga smashed her seventh homer of the season — a two-run rocket to right — as the University of Hawai'i softball team notched its second win of the week over No. 14 Oregon State, 4-2, to win the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament tonight at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Sophomore pitcher Justine Smethurst, who shared tournament MVP honors with Tausaga, gave up two runs on nine hits in seven innings

The Wahine (23-5) are one home run shy of the school's season record of 42, which was set last year. Kate Robinson leads the team with eight home runs. So far this season, 81 of the team's 131 RBIs have come off of homers.
