Skies should clear gradually later today

Advertiser Staff

A weakening cold front reached Kaua'i and O'ahu overnight and is expected to extend to Maui or the Big Island by tonight before stalling, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds and showers are expected to spread eastward along with the front, forecasters said. Islands toward the western end of the Hawai'i chain likely will see a gradual clearing of the skies later toady.

Winds are expected to switch briefly to trades tomorrow as the front dissolves, then become southeasterlies tomorrow night as another cold front approaches.

The next cold front is expected to arrive over the main Islands by the middle of the week.

Here's a more detailed look at what to expect:

Today, mostly cloudy. Occasional showers in the morning, then isolated showers in the afternoon. Highs 74 to 79. West winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent.

Tonight, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 64 to 71. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tomorrow, sunny. Highs 76 to 82. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tomorrow night, mostly clear. Lows 63 to 70. Northeast winds around 10 mph.
