Pilot scouted clearing from air

The pilot of a helicopter that crashed in Ha'ena at around 1 p.m. today began experiencing mechanical problems about midway through the tour, according to a press release from the Kaua'i Fire Department."Scouting the area from the air, the pilot located Camp Naue in Ha'ena and attempted to land in a clearing at the camp. However, due to mechanical problems, the helicopter crash-landed," the press release said.
One person died and four were injured in the crash.
