Man killed in H-1 crash near Makakilo identified

Advertiser Staff

A man killed in a single-car crash on the H-1 Freeway Saturday morning has been identified as Sione Tamale, 25, of Waimanalo.

Tamale was one of three men in a blue Volkswagen Jetta that flipped over and crashed in the west-bound lanes near the Makakilo off-ramp at about 5:15 a.m. Police said the car went out of control, hit a utility pole and overturned.

Two of the men were thrown from the vehicle and a third was pinned inside, police said. Tamale was pronounced dead, while the two others, a 26-year-old Wai'anae man and a 21-year-old Waikele man, were seriously injured.

It was not clear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, but none of the men was wearing a seat belt, police said.
