Trade winds expected to return briefly today

Light trade winds will make a brief return today, bringing moisture with them from a weakening cold front near the Big Island and dropping the bulk of it over windward areas of most islands, according to the National Weather Service.

Most leeward areas can expect plenty of sunshine today, forecasters said.

Southeast winds will pick up tonight as another cold front approaches from the west.

From Monday through Wednesday, light to moderate south to southwest winds will carry showers over the smaller islands, while the Big Island can expect mostly dry weather with light winds.

Here's a more detailed look at the next few days:

Today, sunny. Highs 76 to 81. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight, mostly clear. Lows 64 to 73. Northeast winds around 10 mph.

Tomorrow, partly sunny with scattered showers. Highs 76 to 82. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Tomorrow night, mostly cloudy with showers likely. Lows 64 to 74. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Tuesday, mostly cloudy with showers likely. Highs 76 to 81. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Tuesday night, mostly cloudy with showers likely. Lows 65 to 70. South winds around 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
