Stevenson student wins Advertiser State Spelling Bee

Stevenson Middle School's Andrew Zhou correctly spelled "Geronimo" to capture the 2007 Honolulu Advertiser State Spelling Bee championship this afternoon.

The 13-year-old eighth-grader at Stevenson beat out 13 other contestants to win the title.

Zhou will be the state's representative at the Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 30-31 in Washington, D.C.

Zhou was the Honolulu District winner and is the son of Jack and Phoebe Zhou.

Kellie Kurasaki, an eighth-grader at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School on Kaua'i, was the runner-up. She is the daughter of James and Laura Kurasaki.

The bee will be televised at 8 tonight on Oceanic's OC 16.
