10 stings highlight busy jellyfish day in Waikiki

By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Urban Honolulu Writer

There were 86 box jellyfish found and 10 stings reported in Waikiki as of 3 p.m. today, according to the city's Ocean Safety Division.

An additional 12 box jellyfish were found at Ala Moana Beach.

A box jellyfish warning was issued this morning and will remain in effect through tomorrow, when the monthly influx is expected to peak.

People stung by box jellyfish are advised to flush the sting area with copious amounts of white vinegar. Anyone experiencing difficulty breathing, muscle cramps or spasms, or persistent pain should seek immediate medical help.
