Sea Life Park fire caused by salt in electrical outlet

Advertiser Staff

An electrical fault caused by excessive salt buildup in an outlet started the early morning fire Sunday at Sea Life Park which caused $100,000 damage.

The 3:13 a.m. fire destroyed the changing room at the Reef Tank pavilion, which contained dive helmets and wetsuits. Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Frank Johnson said due to the Reef Tank pavilion's age and glue-lam beams roof materials, structure damage was also high.
