Inspirational speaker opens disabilities conference

Advertiser Staff

Inspiration will be served up big time today at the Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities.

The annual event, held at the Sheration Waikiki Hotel & Resort, will feature keynote speaker Greg Smith at 9:15 a.m. today.

Smith is a Katrina survivor, author and radio personality.

Mostly, he's a motivator and an inspiration.

Smith was born with Muscular Dystrophy, was told he wouldn't live past the age of 10 (he's 40), lost all of his possessions in Hurricane Katrina and he has dealt with congestive heart failure.

Now recovered, he's sharing his story today.

"It's a blessing to live like you're dying and I hope that my story will motivate the audience to achieve their own goals for greatness," Smith was quoted as saying in a news release on today's event.

Smith weighs 65 pounds and is confined to a wheelchair. He's also the farther of three and hosts a nationally syndicated radio show "The Strength Coach."

He'll be in Honolulu through Thursday.
