Keiki car seat check set for Saturday on Big Island
Advertiser Staff
A keiki car seat check will be held Saturday at Pahoa Marketplace from 10 a.m. to noon, Big Island police announced yesterday.A new law that went into effect this year requires all children 8 and younger to be restrained in a child seat unless the child is 4 foot 9 or taller. Saturday's free event will have 10 certified car seat technicians inspecting car seats and helping drivers set them up properly.
Research on the effectiveness of child car seats in passenger cars indicates a 71 percent reduction in fatal injuries for infants under 1 and a 54 percent reduction for toddlers, ages 1 through 4, police said.
