Head Start to honor fathers

By Lynda Arakawa
Advertiser Central Oçahu Writer

O'ahu Head Start will honor fathers Friday with a free event at Keehi Lagoon that includes games, train rides, bouncers, arts and crafts and other activities for children.

The goal of the event, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is to encourage fathers to spend more time with their children. For more information about the event, call 847-2400.

O'ahu Head Start, which provides preschool services for lower-income children at more than 80 centers islandwide, is also recruiting children for the 2007-08 school year. Children must have been born in 2003 or 2004. In addition to teaching kindergarten readiness skills, the program assigns each child a nurse, family advocate, dental hygienist, nutritionist and other support services. Parents interested in applying for Head Start may call 847-1000 or visit www.oahuheadstart.org.
