NFL's Cardinals fire assistant Anderson after arrest

By Aaron Kuriloff
Bloomberg News Service

The Arizona Cardinals fired assistant coach Richie Anderson four days after his arrest for soliciting a police officer posing as a prostitute.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said on the National Football League team's Web site that he made the decision after considering details of the arrest, without providing specifics.

Phoenix police said they arrested Anderson, 35, on March 8 after he solicited sex from an undercover officer posing as a prostitute as part of a sting operation.

Anderson played 13 seasons as a running back in the NFL, earning a spot in the 2000 Pro Bowl while playing for the New York Jets, where he worked as receivers and tight-ends coach before Arizona hired him as wide-receivers coach in January.
