Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce 'O'o Awards set

The Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual 'O'o Awards banquet at 5:30 p.m. March 30 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral III-V Ballroom.

This year the awards will honor Aunty Genoa Keawe and Clifford Jamile.

The theme is Kaulana Na Pua (Famous Are the Flowers). While many think the song is a political statement, says NHCC president Kaleo Paik, "it really is far more. It is saying we will not sell our culture at any price." It's an apropos message for an organization that aims to "strengthen Native Hawaiian business and professions by building on a foundation of relationships, resources and Hawaiian values."

The evening includes dinner, no-host cocktails, silent auction and an exhibition of maoli artists.

Individual tickets are $85. Tables of 10 are available for $850, $1,500 and $3,000.
