Lingle issues statement year after Kaloko dam burst

Advertiser Staff

On the eve of the first anniversary of the Kaloko Dam breach in which seven people were killed, Gov. Linda Lingle issued the following message:

"As the residents of Kaua'i and people throughout the state observe the one-year anniversary of the Kaloko Dam tragedy, I ask everyone to remember and honor the lives of the seven people who were killed in the early morning of March 14, 2006.

"The sudden loss of these individuals — Daniel Arroyo, Christina McNees, Alan Dingwall, Aurora Fehring, Rowan Fehring-Dingwall, Wayne Rotstein and Timothy Noonan — was felt by everyone in our community, and we share the sorrow of their families, friends and neighbors.

"While we cannot reverse the event that took place when the Kaloko Dam breached following many days of heavy rainfall, we are moving forward to ensure that this type of tragedy does not happen again."
