NANAKULI
10th-grader wins contest

Sarah Panoke, a 10th-grader at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School, is the state winner of the Letters About Literature writing contest sponsored by the Library of Congress Center for the Book and Target Stores. Panoke's letter to William Golding, author of "Lord of the Flies," was selected as the Hawai'i winner for Level III and now goes on to the national competition to be judged by the Library of Congress Center for the Book.

Panoke will be recognized at a reception at the Hawai'i State Library on April 28.

She will receive a Library of Congress award certificate, a cash award and a $50 Target gift certificate.
