MOKULE'IA
Well water will aid area farms

Advertiser Staff

Mokule'ia farmers will soon have well water available to them under a $565,000 project to resurrect an old sugar plantation pump system.

The federal Biosystems Technology Program and a consortium of Mokule'ia farmers are funding the project, which gives farmers another water source option in case of an emergency. About 900 acres of farmland, some of which depend on Lake Wilson water, will benefit from the well system.

The project is about one-third complete. It follows a $200,000 BTP and Dole Food Co. project to replace an aging water-delivery system to farmers on 'Opae'ula Ridge above Hale'iwa Town.
