The crash occurred just after 11 a.m. about a tenth of a mile from the Honoapi'ilani Highway intersection. Police said the Kahului-bound pickup truck crossed the center line and hit the bus, which was occupied by a driver and a single passenger.

The bus driver was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment, but the passenger was released at the scene.

Police have not released the name of the man killed in the wreck.

Kuihelani Highway has been closed while police investigate the fatal crash.
