Flood advisory issued for Lana'i

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service issue a flood advisory for the island of Lana'i at 9:45 this morning.

The warning followed radar images gathered at 9:39 a.m. that showed heavy rain over North Lana'i with additional showers moving toward the island from the southwest.

Other locations in the the advisory include Ko'ele, Lana'i City and Manele.

Weather Service officials are urging Lana'i residents and visitors to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and other low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Heavy rain and the resulting runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking.

The flood advisory will remain in effect until 12:45 and may be extended if necessary.
