BUREAU OF CONVEYANCES

What's in it: Records of real-estate sales; mortgages; tax liens.

Who can get it: General public.

Where to get it: State Department of Land and Natural Resources, each island.

What you need: Name of owner of property; tax map key is helpful.

What it costs: 50 cents per page.

What's in it: Records of building permits issued in each county. Records include names of applicants/contractors; status of permit; schedule of inspections.

Where to get it: Building permit departments in each county.

What you need: A valid ID.
