Schofield traffic backups alleviated, Army says

WAHIAWA — The recent closure of Schofield Barracks' Lyman Gate for construction led to traffic backups earlier this week but those have been ironed out and traffic has returned to normal levels, said Troy Griffin, an Army spokesman at the base.

The $630,104 project, conducted by Niking Corp. and scheduled to last through June 30, includes repaving and widening traffic lanes.

Contractors and visitors are to enter Schofield via McNair Gate, while others who normally use Lyman Gate are directed to Foote or McNair gates.

Griffin said the Army is monitoring traffic and has made several adjustments, including increasing manpower at the gates, adjusting timing on traffic lights and coordinating with the Honolulu Police Department for additional support.
