Coast Guard searching for missing Los Angeles visitor

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Maui Fire Department are searching the waters and shoreline near Keawakapu Beach, Maui, for a 75-year-old tourist from Los Angeles who was reported missing Wednesday night.

Coast Guard Sector Honolulu launched a 47-foot motor life boat from Station Maui and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point after receiving the initial call at 8:30 p.m. from the Maui Police Department stating that a 75-year-old man went swimming and did not return to shore.

The Coast Guard is searching about 9 miles offshore and 7 miles along the shoreline from Molokini Crater to Ma'alaea Harbor.

The crew members of the Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island, a 47-foot motor life boat from Station Maui and Maui Fire Department are conducting search patterns that started early this morning.
