Hawai'i papaya sales down 14 percent in February

Hawai'i's fresh papaya sales fell 14 percent from January to an estimated 2.1 million pounds in February, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. February's production also was down 8 percent from one year ago.

Cumulative sales for the first two months of 2007 were down 13 percent from the same period in 2006.

Papaya growers are expected to receive an estimated 41 cents per pound for fresh fruit in February 2007, which was up 8 percent or 3 cents from last month and up 14 percent or 5 cents from a year ago.
