City to conduct sewer smoke tests in Waipahu

Advertiser Staff

Smoke testing of sewer lines along Awamoku, Awaiki and Awanui streets in Waipahu will take place Tuesday through Friday and March 27 to 30.

The testing is being conducted by crews with the city Environmental Services Department as part of its continuing effort to prevent rainwater from entering the sewer system by locating broken pipes, illegal conections, open cleanouts and other paths that allow runoff to enter the sewer system.

City crews will blow smoke into sewer lines and record where the smoke appears. The smoke is non-toxic, harmless and odorless, and is not a fire hazard or health threat to humans or pets.

Notification letters have been sent to area residents.
