USTA offers lessons at 20 public parks

 •  Sooner or later, we'll all be playing in pain

The USTA tennis lesson program and cardio tennis classes at 20 O'ahu public parks begin April 2, including at a new site — Central O'ahu Regional Park.

Lessons are available for youths and adults from beginner to advanced.

Most classes are $30 for six lessons; some intermediate/accelerated lessons have different fees. Loaner racquets and balls are available.

Registration deadline is March 20.

USTA WEB SITE OFFERS HONOLULU INFORMATION

The U.S. Tennis Association has developed Web sites tailored to several cities, including Honolulu. The new site, www.thisisyourleague.com/honolulu, has information on USTA-sanctioned leagues, teams and matches.

There is also an explanation of the National Tennis Rating Program and a description of what a USTA membership provides.

USTA League Tennis started in 1979 to provide adult recreational players an opportunity to play against people of similar ability levels.

There are now more than 575,000 members.

FOOTBALL OFFICIALS CLINIC SET FOR JUNE 9 AND 10

The third annual Football Officials Aloha Clinic is scheduled for June 9 and 10 at a site to be announced.

Frank White and George Gusman of the Western Athletic Conference and Glenn Young of the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association will provide feedback on mechanics and field presentation. Clinic participants also will work full-contact football games.

Entry fee is $20 (by April 30) and $30 (after April 30).

SOCCER ALL-STAR GAMES SET FOR WAIPI'O STADIUM

The third annual Hawai'i Youth Soccer Association Senior All-Star games are set for March 24 at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Senior high schoolers — boys and girls — from around the state, representing all five leagues, will be selected for the All-Star games. Rosters are not yet complete.
