Firefighters clean up fuel spill at Hilo Airport

Big Island firefighters were called to Hilo International Airport about 8:30 last night to help clean up about 300 gallons of jet fuel that had spilled onto the airport tarmac.The firefighters places an absorbent barrier around the spilled fuel and turned the matter over to a private cleanup contractor.
A state airport crash crew monitored the spill site while waiting for the contractor to arrive.
The spill was attributed to an equipment malfunction.
