About 300 people marched through Honolulu today to protest the war in Iraq, joining thousands of others around the country on the fourth anniversary of the start of the war.In Honolulu, the upbeat, diverse crowd gathered at Ala Moana Beach Park in the late afternoon and marched past Ala Moana Center and Ward Centre for about an hour before returning to the park to listen to music and anti-war speeches.
The event, sponsored by a number of anti-war and other activist groups, brought together veteran anti-war protesters, some in their 80s, and young people, including college students and a few still in strollers.
"I've seen lots of wars, and I just can't take it any more. That's why I'm out here," said 81-year-old Jan Bappe, before stepping off to join the march.
The Honolulu rally was one of dozens across the country from Washington to Los Angeles.
