Man charged in beating of girlfriend's daughter, 3

Advertiser Staff

Prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old man with the beating of a 3-year-old girl.

Shawn Bangloy, who was charged Saturday with assault, was being held in lieu of $40,000 bail. His initial appearance is tomorrow in District Court.

Bangloy was said to be the boyfriend of the child's mother, 19-year-old Monica Bianca Villa of Kalihi, who was charged Thursday with endangering the welfare of a minor.

The child was brought to Kap'iolani Medical Center for Women & Children with "unexplained injuries," and the hospital notified police.

Police Lt. David Kamai, head of child-abuse investigations, said the child's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening but are severe enough to classify the case initially as a first-degree assault.
