LIHU'E, Kaua'i — The Kaua'i County Council has confirmed Matthew Pyun Jr. as the new county attorney. Pyun will assume his position Wednesday.

"We are very fortunate to have a person of Matthew's caliber join the county," said Mayor Bryan Baptiste. "When we heard that he was retiring as a judge, we approached him about coming here and are pleased that he accepted the challenge."

Pyun has been serving as a District Court judge and deputy chief judge in the Third Circuit Court, and is set to retire from those positions Tuesday.
