ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Ash spin cycle at Acid Wash

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Bela Lugosi may be dead, but Daniel Ash isn't. The founding guitarist/vocalist of goth godfathers Bauhaus, synth funksters Tones On Tail and gloomy glam rockers Love and Rockets, when not hooking up with fellow Bauhaus ex Peter Murphy for the occasional reunion tour, digs working the ones and twos. Ash will be at NextDoor's Acid Wash weekly on Wednesday spinning his fave '80s glam and disco tunes for the kids. Get in for $5 between 9 and 10 p.m., $10 thereafter. A portion of the door take will be donated to the Life Foundation. Acid Wash resident turntablists Vegas Mike and Nocturna open. Behave and Ash might even spin "Terror Couple Kill Colonel." We're already bereft in deathly bloom.

ELLE DU JOUR

Lori Anne Tomonari layers chains, beads, stones, shells and charms to make lariats and necklaces. Tomonari's sophisticated eye mixes moonstone and shell, gold coral and Venetian gold discs in her cocktail rings and oversize hoop earrings. (Devyn Rola models a gold drop necklace and earrings.) She launches her line, Elle Face, Thursday at The O Lounge during the Melia Conrad fashion show. Second chance: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 31 at Riches Kahala, where the line will be sold exclusively for $60 to $300. Whence the name? "Elle" is Tomonari's sisters' nickname for her. "Elle Face" is a name a friend called her one day and it simply stuck.

MIND BEHIND MOANANUI

What, exactly, is the 'oro'ino? Ask your "Polyfantastica" questions and get a copy of Hawai'i's only serialized graphic novel signed by creator Solomon Enos. Bring this newspaper to Pictures Plus (Ward Gateway Center, 594-7077) from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at a meet-the-artist event. Plus get a sneak peek at his series of Hi'iakaikapoliopele paintings. Expect entertainment and refreshments too.
