Tsunami evacuation route signs go up in Kailua, Kona

KAILUA, KONA, Hawai'i — The county Public Works Department and Civil Defense Agency today began installing tsunami evacuation signs on streets in the North Kona District.

The signs will be installed on streets from Kailua Village to Keauhou, and will designate routes for residents to follow during tsunami events. The installation work by GP Roadway Solutions Co. will be take approximately five days, county officials said.

Motorists are being advised to be on alert for work crews and to expect possible traffic delays.
