State, county flags to fly at half-staff

Advertiser Staff

State flags at state and county buildings will be flown at half-staff in honor of two former state elected officials who recently passed away, the governor's office said.

State flags shall be flown at half-staff tomorrow in honor of former Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Thomas K. Kaulukukui Sr., who died on March 9.

Kaulukukui served on the OHA board from 1980-1994.

On Thursday, state flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of former state Rep. Peter Aduja, who died on Feb. 19.

Aduja, a native of Ilocos Sur province in the Philippines, became the first Filipino in Hawai'i to be elected to the Territorial House of Representatives, where he represented Hilo as a Republican for one two-year term, the governor's office said.

The flag will be flown from sun-up to sun-down on the respective day of interment for Kaulukukui and Aduja, a governor's office news release said.

Gov. Linda Lingle will also order state flags to fly at half-staff in honor of OHA Trustee Linda Dela Cruz, who died March 15, once funeral arrangements are announced by family members.
