Navy Adm. Willard tapped for Pacific Fleet command

Navy Adm. Robert F. Willard will replace Adm. Gary Roughead as commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet based out of Pearl Harbor if he is confirmed by the Senate.

Navy Adm. Robert F. Willard has been nominated to take over command of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today.

Willard, who is currently vice chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon, would replace Adm. Gary Roughead, who has been nominated to commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Va.

The presidential nominations need to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
