Arrest in stolen rental car incident

A 28-year-old convicted felon was arrested yesterday in connection with a stolen rental car and handgun-related offenses.

At 11:56 p.m. last night a patrol officer responding to a report of a stolen car spotted the man driving into a parking lot in a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle. When the man got out of the car and walked away the officer left his patrol car and followed, police said.

The man then started to run away and the officer chased him. During the chase the man turned to face the officer and began to reach for his waistband, police said.

The officer pulled out his Tazer and stunned the man who fell to the ground after being shocked.

As the officer handcuffed the man, he found a handgun on the ground. A search of the stolen car produced several unspent rounds of ammunition.

The man was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, car theft, and illegal storage of a firearm, police said.

Girlfriend arrested in knife-wielding incident

A 24-year-old woman was arrested last night after she allegedly threatened to kill her boyfriend during an argument.

At 9 p.m. last night the woman and her 21-year-old boyfriend got into an argument in her Kalihi home. During the argument the woman pulled out a knife and threatened to kill him.

The 21-year-old fled her house and called police. Responding patrol officers arrested the woman on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Man arrested in shoplifting incident

A 43-year-old man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly tried to steal merchandise from the Waikele Sports Authority.

At 6:30 p.m. yesterday the man was observed taking clothes off the racks and walking into a dressing room. The man was then spotted stuffing merchandise into his clothes and leaving the dressing room and store without paying.

He was detained by store security and then arrested on suspicion of theft in the second degree.
