Pa'ia bypass hours extended

Advertiser Staff

Operating hours for the Pa'ia mini-bypass have been extended, with vehicles now allowed on the road from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The one-lane road was opened in July to relieve the traffic jam through Pa'ia. It connects Hana Highway with Baldwin Avenue near the post office.

The initial operating hours were 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays, but motorists have been demanding greater use of the road, which was meant as a temporary measure until a permanent bypass is built.

It was constructed as a joint project among the state Department of Transportation, Maui County and Alexander & Baldwin Inc.
