Honolulu soldier dies in Iraq from noncombat causes

The Department of Defense today announced that a Schofield Barracks soldier from Honolulu died Saturday in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, from noncombat-related causes.

Staff Sgt. Nimo Westhill Masaniai Tauala's death is under investigation, Department of Defense officials said in a media release.

Tauala, 29, was assigned to the 209th Aviation Support Battalion, Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawai'i.

He joined the Army in January 2000 and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in February 2004.
