Big Island police arrest 27 last week for drunk driving

During the week of March 13 to 19, Big Island police arrested 27 motorists for drunk driving. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and two were under the age of 21.There have been 282 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 237 at this time last year, an increase of 19 percent.
There have been 483 major accidents on the Big Island so far this year compared with 571 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.
There have been nine traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with nine during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
