Hawai'i-based Marines, sailors to deploy tonight to Iraq

About 300 Marines and sailors with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment will depart Hawai'i tonight for a seven-month deployment to Iraq.The Kane'ohe Bay-based Marines and sailors of 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment returned from a combat tour in Afghanistan in May.
The "Lava Dogs" will replace 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment — also stationed in Hawai'i — to participate in stabilization, security and counter-terror efforts under way.
