Miki Takenawa to be honored

TransPacific Hawaii College student Miki Takenawa was named a New Century Scholar by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

The award is given to students who receive the highest All-USA Academic Team score in each state. She will receive a $2,000 scholarship and attend the American Association of Community Colleges national convention in Tampa, Fla., next month.

Takenawa, 20, has completed more than 250 hours of community service at Hanauma Bay and 'Aina Haina Elementary School, and received the United States President's Service Learning Gold Award for her community service.
