Plans advance for 50th anniversary statehood party

The state House Tourism and Culture committee this morning unanimously approved a bill to fund a celebration for the 50th anniversary of statehood.The bill would create a 12-member commission to plan and coordinate the 2009 event, which could cost $250,000.
In the draft that just passed, the House speaker and Senate president will each nominate 12 members and the governor will select six from each list.
