'Idol' and KHON news tops local ratings

BY WAYNE HARADA
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

According to the just-released February Nielsen television ratings, Fox's "American Idol" was the most-watched TV show; KHON was the No. 1 in local news; but 10 p.m. belongs to KGMB during weekdays and weekends.

Other results: KITV and KGMB improved viewership at 5 p.m.; KGMB bettered its 6 p.m. numbers; and KHON's Joe Moore still outdraws the other network anchors at 5:30 p.m., followed by KGMB, KITV and KHON. KHNL was last in all news slots.

As far as series go, in February "Idol" retained its dominance in the local market, with the Tuesday edition the No. 1 show (27 households, 44 percent share), and the Wednesday version No. 2 (27 households, 43 percent share).

According to Joe McNamara, KHON president and general manager, "Idol" logged 232,000 viewers on Tuesdays, just 17,000 shy of the 249,000 amassed for that perennial blockbuster known as the Super Bowl.
