Honolulu police were called to Jones' apartment at 2591 Dole Street by neighbors reporting a domestic argument at 2:30 p.m. yesterday. The incident came hours after Jones, a 6-foot-2, 192-pound cornerback, was suspended from the team for missing several team assignments.

While on suspension, Jones remains on scholarship, but is prohibited from competing in spring practice.

UH coach June Jones declined to comment on Keenan Jones' situation until an investigation is completed. Keenan Jones did not return messages left on his cell phone.

According to police, Keenan Jones, 21, of Harbor City, Calif., got into a verbal argument with his 21-year-old, live-in girlfriend.The argument escalated and turned physical, police said.

In a statement to police, the woman alleged Jones punched and kicked her and prevented her from leaving the couple's apartment.Responding patrol officers broke up the fight and arrested Jones.

Jones played for Compton College in 2005. Soon after, Compton lost its accreditation. Jones was told UH would not accept credits earned at Compton starting with the 2006 spring semester. Jones attended Los Angeles Harbor College during the 2006 spring semester to earn an associate degree, an eligibility requirement for a junior-college transfer. Because L.A. Harbor canceled a class he needed, Jones finished up at El Camino College last summer.
